April 13

Well, I’m not related to the Puppeteer either (spoiler alert!).
At least this time I remembered to not eat.
They’d captured some of the Puppeteer’s…. puppets. Somehow. I don’t know how they do all this stuff, but it’s creepy as hell. They stuck me in a room with the puppets (You’d think they’d be a little more reluctant to stick me in life-threatening situations considering I’m supposed to be their fucking Messiah) and they told me to take control of them. I guess they figured since the puppets already had strings I could just start pulling them.
They were wrong.
And they forgot to take into account how the Puppeteer would feel about people trying to cut her strings.
(The entry ends with a number of spots and lines, as if the writer intended to continue but could not. The account continues on the following page.)

April 12

I don’t like these people.
They took me to the morgue today to test out my apparently-non-existant Reaper powers.
They stuck me in there with a bunch of dead guys and told me not to come out until I looked like one of them. Long story short, it didn’t work. I threw up. Again. I don’t even want to know where they got all those dead people.

April 11

(Major McElroy has ordered transcription efforts on the journal to double. This alter-dimensional “Messiah” may be the key to saving our world as well.)
Well, we’ve established I’m not connected to the Stranger. They took me out into the middle of the woods (I didn’t even know we had a forest that big around here) and just left me there.
I don’t know what they were expecting me to do besides get terribly lost (which I did). They didn’t leave me completely on my own at least. I stumbled across a body hung from a tree branch by its intestines well… inner parts. While I was throwing up a group of suits with ATVs came and picked me up. Apparently I’d strayed too close to the Stranger’s territory.
Makes him sound like some kind of predator.
Oh. Apparently they are predators. Great.

April 10

New tactic.
Now they’re apparently just going to go down the list of Fears and see if I have any of their powers.
They’ve given me a list to study. They’ve also given me a room in the warehouse to live in since I’m to be kept under strict observation until this shit gets figured out. Also, they seem to think I need protection. Like the Fears are going to suddenly catch on to me and try to take me out of the picture. That’sreassuring.
The Stranger: Some sort of tree spirit thing that kidnaps children. Don’t know how they’re gonna test that one out but…
The Reaper: He steals the forms of the dead. What kind of fucked up shit is that? I don’t think I want to know how they’re going to test that…
The Puppeteer: Don’t know why she’s a “puppeteer” she looks like a puppet herself… But she can control humans. That’s a terrifying thought. Would be a useful “power” though.
The Hound: It’s a big dog. I don’t see how this is going to work. Seems pretty creepy though, knowing your secrets and all that shit…
The Librarian: An old, blind man who steals your memories. The images I’ve seen of him make me think of portrayals of Destiny. An old blind man with a book. Stealing memories doesn’t sound like too bad of a “power.”
The Shifter: Not sure why they call him that. He seems to posses people, not shift into them. If anything they should call the Reaper the Shifter. This is a creepy kind of power… It seems to kill the people it inhabits. That’s pretty depressing.
The Water: This one terrifies me. It infects the water. Then, if you drink the infected water, it infects you. You become part of it. The suits assure me that we only drink safe, bottled water but…
The City: I… I don’t know how a cCity can be a living thing but apparently it is. Maybe it’d give me the ability to teleport? I don’t even…
The Ice Prince: A creepy little boy. Oh yay. He freezes people and makes them his followers though. That’s not the kind of I’m not sure Next.
The Birds: A flock of birds that can summon lightning. Apparently they it hollows out its servants and fills them with birds. That’s the worst one yet. I wouldn’t mind being able to control lightning. Or see through bird eyes. How cool would that be?
The Ravager: This thing looks like an animal. The suits say it’s hyper-intelligent though. It whispers to people and makes them do things. A decent ability to have but it seems to just make people turn into crazy murderers. Not cool.
The Whispers: Not to be confused with the Ravager’s whispering. This thing apparently makes noises and makes you hear voices and tells you all those horrible things you think people are saying about you and The ability to project sound would be cool I guess. Not particularly useful for killing these creatures though…
The Shadows: They’re shadow people. That organize things. Including people’s brains. Theory is that they’re victims of the City. That makes the City suddenly a lot scarier.
The Doctor: That’s a joke. He gives people diseases. That is one fucked up doctor. I’d hate to have to test that out…
Testing starts tomorrow.
Joy of joys.
(The “Fears” listed in this journal seem to be similar in nature to the creatures currently plaguing our world. Will direct this account to Major McElroy for further orders. This is bigger than we suspected.)

April 7

Well today was a total bust.
They tried threatening me, attacking me, locking me in a cell, dropping me from the roof, hitting me with weapons and fucking shooting at me and nothing happened. Apparently they thought putting me in mortal danger would cause my powers to awaken as some sort of survival instinct.
So much for that.

April 6 - Part 2

ABDA. That's what they're called. The Alterdimensional Being Detection Agency. Sounds like a bunch of bullshit at first.

But they told me about these things that have come to our world dimension, not our world, our dimension. They were very clear on that. These weren't beings from outer space. They were nothing like any other species we'd encountered.

They were practically gods. Beings with powers beyond human comprehension. Beings who gained their power from the belief of humans. Beings who Compelled us to talk about  them, to share their stories, so that they would grow in power.

The suits took me to their boss. A cold, bitchy woman in a pantsuit. Their computer system, designed to pin-point the location of these horrors (the suits called them "Fears," clearly these people have no creativity), their corrupted followers and their spheres of influence had picked up on me.

They'd never noticed me before and I'd never seen any of these Fears before. So apparently that meant I was some "Messiah" that was meant to drive the Fears from this universe. I don't even know what that means. I didn't even know these things existed until last week. And now I'm supposed to get rid of them?

The suits said they'd teach me to use whatever power I'm supposed to have. If the computer mistook me for someone touched by a Fear, that means I must have some sort of Fear-like power.

Apparently.

April 6

They found me last week, the men in the suits. They came into my cubicle in the middle of the day and told me to come with them. Wouldn't say where they were from or what they wanted, just said I had to come with them.

My boss is a spineless coward and was easily intimidated by their suits and sunglasses and badges. He gave me the day off to go with them. They loaded me into a van with tinted windows and took me to some warehouse downtown. I tried to run when they opened the door. Fancy badges or no, this shit was sketchy. But they caught me and dragged me inside.

Inside were desks and big screens and computers and all sorts of people running around looking important. It was like those Homeland Security rooms they have in movies, where they're listening to our phone conversations and watching us through security cameras. I would later learn that they were hacking our phone lines and E-mails and security cameras. Writing this down on paper is the only way to be sure they won't see it.

They told me a lot of crazy stuff in there. Things I wouldn't believe were true if I hadn't seen them for myself. They showed me security footage. Read me blogs and E-mails. Played back distorted phone conversations. Exposed me to horrors beyond my wildest imaging.
And told me I was the only one that could save humanity from them.
